One of the most widely spread tattoo myths is about the number 777. It usually goes like this: “The meaning behind 777 tattoos is that it represents 7 virtues and 7 sins.”
The common meanings behind the 777 tattoo (I found throughout Internet) say that it stands for perfection, spirituality, divine completion or illumination.
One website even mentions Church of Satan as possible source of inspiration.
So, What is the actual meaning behind 777 tattoo?
As you may have already guessed, the number 777 does not stand for 7 virtues or 7 sins. The explanation that it represents 7 virtues and 7 sins was probably invented by “some bored dudes” who simply added up all numerical values of letters in Latin alphabet to come up with an attractive story which would scare people from getting tattoos.
The meaning of 777 in the bible
Since 7 stands for God in the bible, 777 can be interpreted as the holy trinity ( the father , the son , the holy spirit )
Let’s look at some more meanings:
One of the numerous meanings of 777 tattoo is the Kabbalistic meaning of this number. 555 may be a substitute for 777 in some circumstances.
One last thing we can add to all this is that intelligence agencies were sponsoring many tattoos back in 1950s when communism was still a threat so it’s not hard to imagine how they could have been involved in spreading false rumors about numerology of tattoos which would scare people from getting them.
As always, you should do your research before choosing your tattoo and don’t just trust everything you read on Internet. Think twice before getting any numerological tattoo as most likely there’s absolutely no genuine explanation behind their mystical symbolism! Finally, pay attention to what kind of pictures you put into your body, because you only have one!
